This set design worked within the logistical constraint of being flat packable and possible to build or break in ten minutes, my own passion for sustainability, and the directorial choice to create an environment entirely from paper. I worked with the character of 'the paper ballerina' to create a translucent, birdcage-like set that could be used as a shadow screen or a set for dance.
The set was made from tracing paper, rubber bands, steel builders band, and bamboo. At the end of the show every material was either reused or recycled.
The tracing paper was sewn into a large sheet with pockets, and the structure and paper could both be rolled up separately for storage or assembled together.Â
