Barrow

Barrow was an installation created for the exhibition 'Performance as Protest' at CSM. 

Based on research into British folklore, it was a protest against the unsustainable constant growth of capitalism, and an invitation to slow down. Inspired by Stony Littleton Long Barrow, which aligns with the sunrise on the winter solstice, the piece drew on ogham script, folk song and symbolism to create a space of quiet and a recognition of the cycles of life and death, growth and decay, that a barrow honors.

In an economic system built upon constant growth, the act of decay is a protest.
