Platform was an experiment created in response to my essay 'Is It Alive?', which explores human relationships to nature, technology and objects.
The performance questions whether the (in)animate objects and technology of a theatre are in fact equally as active in theatre making as the humans. It is an ode to the behind-the-scenes things and people of theatre and to the wonderful Platform Theatre, which Central St Martins is knocking down in 2027.
This performance recording shows Platform as part of a longer showcase of performances.
The rhythms and properties of the theatre are echoed back through sound and work.
Read 'Is It Alive' here:
The essay moves through folklore and land art to question: what if things are alive?
And what could that mean for theatre making? A more sustainable posthuman methodology?
